Core concepts

The four ideas the rest of the system is built on: images, slots, rollback, atomicity.

  • What immutable means — Not "discouraged from changing" — structurally unable to change. Here is exactly which parts of the disk are read-only and which are yours.
  • System images and slots — Your disk holds room for two system images at once. That single fact is what makes updates safe.
  • Snapshots and rollback — Every Immos update keeps the previous system image. If an update ever causes trouble, you can return to the version that worked — usually in under a minute.
  • Atomic updates — An update either fully applies or does not apply at all. The system never ends up half-updated.
