Everyday use

Software, updates, storage and hardware — the things you actually do with the machine.

  • Installing apps — Software comes from Flathub, through Discover or one command. Apps are sandboxed, update on their own schedule, and are entirely independent of the system image.
  • Updating your system — System updates are a separate, deliberate act from app updates — one command, one reboot, and a way back if you need it.
  • Your files and storage — Your home folder works exactly as you expect. What is different is where everything else lives — and why an update can never take your data with it.
  • Hardware and printing — Drivers, firmware and microcode ship inside the image, so hardware works on first boot without anything to install.
  • Developer tools — Need a compiler, apt, or a header package? Run a full mutable distro in a container — without weakening the read-only system underneath.
